BIRMINGHAM, AL (Nov. 19, 2021) – Birmingham Legion FC announced today that defender Jonny Dean has won the 2021 Fan’s Choice MVP Award, as presented by the club’s supporters’ group, the Magic City Brigade.
Dean, 24, has been a fan favorite since his arrival in Birmingham prior to the 2020 season. Since that time, he has started in all 49 games in which he has been available, en route to leading the team in minutes played in 2021, with 2,861.
Bombing forward from his right back position, ‘Hotlinks’ also led the team in assists (five) and in chances created (48) this year, and finished third in blocks (13), third in clearances (51), fourth in interceptions (38), and fifth in tackles (41). Dean also added in one goal this year, a stoppage time game winner at Indy Eleven on July 24.

One more Team Award will be announced in the coming days – the Team MVP. Forward Neco Brett was recently awarded the 2021 Golden Boot, and goalkeeper Matt VanOekel was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
