Legion FC Outlook
The Black & Gold will aim to carry on their positive momentum after opening the 2024 season with a win against the defending USL Champions, Phoenix Rising FC. The lone goal came from a miscalled Phoenix own goal that was a deflected rocket shot by Diba Nwegbo in the 67th minute. Rising had many chances but the backline remained controlled and organized for most of the match, holding on to a 1-0 win. Matt VanOekel was a key player, making eight saves and earning a clean sheet on the road.
Hartford Athletic Outlook
Hartford finished the 2023 season with the fewest points in the USL Championship. Since then, Hartford has made significant changes to bolster its roster, starting with hiring former Championship Coach of the Year Finalist Brendan Burke to lead the team. Other notable additions to the team are Michee Ngalina, Anderson Asiedu, Deshane Beckford, Romario Williams, Marcus Epps, Anderson Asiedu, and Thomas Vancaeyezeele.
Athletic will host Legion FC after recently coming off a 1-0 win against El Paso Locomotive FC on the road. The goal came from Jamaican International, Romario Williams with a penalty kick in the 13th minute.
Friends to Foes
The match will be an opportunity for a reunion for the team with two former Legionnaires, Anderson Asiedu and Thomas Vancaeyezeele. Vancaeyezeele made 31 appearances, logged 1,859 minutes, and recorded one goal for the Three Sparks. Asiedu made 123 appearances, logged 10,240 minutes, and scored three goals for the Black & Gold.
